Unit Converter
Convert between units across multiple categories.
What is the Unit Converter?
A unit converter rescales a measurement from one unit to another within the same physical quantity. Most conversions are a single multiplication through a base unit; temperature is the exception, because the scales have different zero points as well as different step sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Why is temperature conversion different from other units?
Because Celsius and Fahrenheit have offset zero points, so you cannot just multiply. Converting needs both a scale factor and an offset, which is why 0°C is 32°F rather than 0°F.
Is a kilobyte 1000 or 1024 bytes?
Both conventions are in use, which is exactly why transfers look slower than advertised. Storage vendors use 1000 (KB), operating systems often use 1024 (properly called KiB). This converter offers both so you can compare like with like.
