OCR – Image & PDF Text Extractor
Extract text from images and PDFs using on-device OCR with progress, language selection, and smart preprocessing.
What is the OCR (Image to Text)?
OCR — optical character recognition — finds letter shapes in an image and converts them into selectable text. This runs the recognition engine inside your browser rather than on a server, which is slower than a cloud API but means the document never leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Are my scanned documents uploaded?
No. The OCR engine is downloaded into your browser and runs there, so images and PDFs are processed on your own machine. That is the point for anything containing identity documents, contracts or medical information.
How do I get more accurate OCR results?
Give it the best input you can: a straight, well-lit, high-resolution image with good contrast between text and background. Selecting the correct language matters too, since it constrains which characters the engine expects.
Can it read handwriting?
Not reliably. The engine is trained on printed type, so neat block capitals sometimes work while cursive generally does not. Handwriting recognition is a different class of model.
