What is the Image Format Converter?
An image converter re-encodes a picture into a different file format. Moving PNG or JPEG to WEBP typically cuts file size substantially at the same visible quality, which is the single easiest way to speed up a web page that is heavy with images.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion runs on a canvas inside your browser, so the image data never leaves your device. That matters for photos, screenshots of internal tools and anything covered by a privacy policy.
Should I convert to WEBP or keep PNG and JPEG?
WEBP is supported by every current browser and is usually smaller than both, so it is the better default for the web. Keep PNG when you need lossless output or transparency fidelity, and JPEG when a tool in your pipeline demands it.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background as JPEG?
JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparency has to be flattened onto some colour. You can choose which colour before converting — pick the background it will sit on, or convert to WEBP instead to keep transparency.
